Since I first made a bowl on the pottery wheel in 2002 in Montreat, NC with my sweet sister, Leigh, I have been totally addicted! There are few things I love more than getting my hands into some clay and seeing what develops!

Twice in One Week!!!

I'm actually blogging for the second time this week!  I really am trying to do better.

I donated this piece to the Brooke Hill Ovarian Cancer Fundraiser. It's about 6" tall and a deep teal color. Even deeper than in this picture. The ovarian cancer ribbon color is teal, you know.  I had this piece at the show in Florence and lots of people looked at it, but it didn't sell.  Then earlier this week Shelley Sedlak asked me if I could donate something, and of course, this was the perfect piece.  No wonder it didn't sell!  They have a facebook page with lots of great art on it.  The auction/party is June 1 at the Carnegie.

Great Show!

The Blomin' Festival was a great success!  I met so many nice and interesting people and lots of friends stopped by too.  This was the first time I had my crosses on display attached to driftwood.  They were well received!  Actually, the first thing I sold was one of the crosses on driftwood.  The one on the right pictured below..
And I sold it to one of our clients from the insurance agency where I work full time.  He said, you said you did pottery but I didn't know you could do THIS!  He and his wife are very nice!  I met another potter at the show too who does this as his full time job, along with his wife.  Maybe one day I can do it too...I can dream, can't I?

Bloomin' Festival

The Bloomin' Festival is this weekend!  April 9-10, 9-5 each day.  The weather is supposed to be lovely.  There are over 150 artists and crafters registered.  There are lots and lots of activities going on.  It's always a great show. They're even raffling a Jeep!  (Sam, my 18 yr old, wants that!  What a shock.)  If you're out and about, come by and see me.  I have lots of crosses made for perfect Easter gifts.  I have no idea where my booth will be, but I shouldn't be too hard to find.

The kiln was VERY good to me last week.  And there's another load cooling right now - getting ready for the Jerry Brown Arts Festival this weekend!  I'm going to unload tonight after work and I"ll try to post some pics tomorrow if I have a minute. ttfn

Utensil Holder Class ~ Huge Success!

We had a fabulous time last Saturday, the 19th, at 16 Main making utensil holders.  Some folks decided to make vases.  We had a wide range of styles.  Check it out!  I can't wait to see how they turn out once they're glazed.  Next month we're doing crosses, just in time for Easter in April.  I'll post samples soon.  ttfn

Utensil Holder Class ~ February 19th

This Saturday, the 19th, I'll be teaching a class making kitchen utensil holders.  They will be handbuilt, using a slab of clay and decorated.  One method of decorating that I'll teach is to add a grapevine and grapes and leaves.  We'll also discuss other ideas and each student can decorate as they see fit.  That's the best part of the class - seeing what everyone comes up with!  And, as usual, there are no restrictions!  Come!  Join us!  It's sure to be fun and to get your creative juices flowing!

Where Have You Been?

Ok, ok...so I don't quite have this blog thing down yet.  I'm trying.  Things at the new studio are fantabulous!  I've taught two classes with another coming up in a little over a week (Jan 19th - making utensil holders).  They are SO fun.  And I especially enjoy helping other people get excited about making things in clay.  In January we built mugs with 9 students.  It was full!  They are coming back this weekend to glaze the mugs, etc. and then we'll refire them.  I can't wait to see what they look like.

Wow! A blog!

Well, I guess I'm officially in the twenty-first century now.
I've just moved into a new studio at 16 Main in Madison, Alabama.  It's a community of artists with working studios and gallery space.  I'm so excited about it - the chance to really take my work to the next level, so to speak.  And I expect that having my own space is going to be wonderful!  The Director of 16 Main asked me if I had a website or blog that she could include when she posts an announcement about me coming to the studio and I had to say, no.  Well, now I can say, "Yes!  I have a blog!"  Of course, whether or not it will be useful or interesting remains to be seen.  But bear with me and we'll see where we go from here...
